Bulgarian official’s made contradictory statements Friday concerning the future of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline.
The country’s prime minister surprisingly announced that the country will scrap the oil pipeline project over fears about its profitability and possible environmental impacts, Novonite.com reports.
“Bulgaria gives up the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline project,” Boyko Borisov said on Friday after a meeting with the ambassadors from European Union countries.
“The pipeline passes through protected areas from the European environmental protected area network Natura 2000, to top it all off there are no guarantees for us to see returns in the short term,” Borisov said.
Still, some hour later, energy minister Traycho Traykov said there has been no official decision to scrap the pipeline project.
“The Council of Ministers has not adopted any resolution to stop the Burgas-Alexandrupolis projects,” said Traykov.
Traykov expressed extreme surprise at such claims.
“I can΄t believe he said that!,” he was cited as saying.
