Unemployment Rates Hit the Sky

It has been reported that the unemployment rate has risen to 11.7%, from 9.3% of last year; in this first quarter of 2010. The unemployment rate for women is now up to 15.5% and is significantly higher than that of men, which is 9.0%.
According to age groups, the highest unemployment rate is among young people between 15-29 years old (22.3%) and for young women the figure reaches 27.4%.
In reference to education levels, the highest rate of unemployment is found among those who have not attended school 8,1%, those who have a school diploma reached 14.0%, and among graduates of higher technological training are around 13.4%. The lowest percentage seen is (7.1%) among graduates of higher education, and to those who have a Ph.d. or master’s (7.4%).
Meanwhile, the percentage of those unemployed who are entering the market for the first time  is about 23.6% from the total.
The unemployment rate for people of foreign nationality is higher than that of Greek nationals (14.5% vs. 11.4%). Also, 73.8% of foreign nationals are economically active, which is significantly higher than that of the Greeks, which is 52.4%.
Data shows that during the first quarter of 2010 85, 244 people were employed who were not a year ago. While at the same time, 65,734 people moved from being economically active to employment.
132,356 people, who were employed a year ago are now unemployed.
