Greek unions call sixth general strike for July 8

Greece’s two main umbrella unions said Thursday that they have called for another general 24 hour strike for Thursday, July 8 over proposed pension and labor reforms.
It will be the sixth joint stoppage this year by Greece’s main public and private sector unions, which together represent about 2.5 million workers, or half the Greek workforce.
However the government argues that it has to keep its promises to the International Monetary Fund and European Union so it can keep drawing portions of the EUR110 billion bailout that was put in place in May to rescue the debt-laden country.
The fifth general strike on Tuesday saw a marked decrease in levels of mobilisation.
