Environmental study for the "Sea Diamond" shipwreck!

The effects of the shipwreck on the marine ecosystem in  the area of Santorini are negligible according to the study conducted  by the Hellenic Center for Marine Research  that took place from October 2009 till May 2010, and was presented today. According to their conclusions, the leak of oil slick seems that it did not cause any serious problems and the sea life in the area is safe , while the specific points that  were unsettled because of the accident are better now.
However, according to the same study some marine organisms ( like clams) face some serious problems beacouse of some heavy metals that could be relevant to the shipwreck. That remark together with the fact that the ship contains polluting cargo, which, even slowly, comes twofold in the environment, enforces the research until we are certain that there is no danger!
