New 24-hour Strike on the 8th of July, Thursday

The trade unions plan a new 24-hour general strike this Thursday, on the 8th of July. Its going to be a week full of controversy, since, the Government is about to vote the Insurance Bill
On the day the controversial draft will be submitted in Parliament, GSEE and ADEDY issued a 24 hour general strike. On the same day, the Panhellenic Maritime Federation (IMO) will also be on strike.
Public Transportation Unions, have not yet announced whether they will participate in the strike.
The Bill was submitted in parliament on Friday, by the Ministry of Finance. It states that all men and women in the public sector shall retire on their 65th year of age.
From the 1 of January, 2011, all new recruitment’s will join I.K.A insurance. Further more, from the 1st of August civil servant pensioners that gain more than 1400 euro’s will have to contribute LAFKA.
The draft law defines the conditions and the period of application as follows:
• The start of the transitional period for the equation of pensionable age for men and women will start from 01/01/2011.
• The equation will be completed by 31/12/2013.
• Retirement of men and women must not be less than the age of 65.
