The winners of the Microsoft Innovation Competition visited the Prime Minister

The Prime Minister, George A. Papandreou, met the two Greek students who won the 1st prize in the Microsoft Innovation Competition. The two students, George Karakatsiotis and Vaggelis Pterneas created a Touring Machine that offers personal tours, something really helpful for the saving of the world’s cultural heritage.
The machine is based on the natural language processor NaturalOWL, developed by the Natural Language Processing Group of the Athens University of Economics and Business, that make descriptions not already existing but it modulated to the user’s personal characteristics (age, interestings, navigation record). The system avoids the repeat of information and there is a feeling of continuity in the tour. The descriptions can be automatically produced in many languages, while the expressions change according to the user’s age.
The platform has two options: one for desktop computers and one for mobile phones.
The desktop computers’ edition presets a 3D image of the place of the tour, offering a realistic tour in the virtual world.
For those who prefer visiting the archeological place, the mobile edition is the ideal companion. The mobile gives information about the exhibits and creates a unique tour for each visitor.
