Greece, Bulgaria to launch joint police operations – minister

Bulgarian and Greek police will launch joint operations whereby officers from both countries would patrol together. The operations will be tailored after the example of Bulgarian-Romanian joint patrol teams, according to Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who made the announcement in Bourgas on the Black Sea coast, Bulgarian news agency Focus reported.
“We are currently working with our Romanian counterparts who have already been commissioned in Bulgaria because of the large number of Romanian tourists travelling mostly along the northern Black Sea coast in our country. We have already deployed joint traffic police units and the initiative is producing positive results. We will have a similar approach in our work with the Greek police, because tourism in the area is very dynamic,” Tsvetanov said.
“Many Bulgarians spend their holidays in Greece, and some of them are occasionally troublesome. There are also Greek tourists who occasionally create problems in Bulgaria. So joint police teams will be set up,” he said
Bulgarian and Romanian police have been on joint patrols since July 2 and would continue until August 22, focusing on the Bulgarian summer resorts of Albena and Zlatni Pyiassutsi (Golden Sands), which are favoured by Romanian tourists, and the Romanian resorts near Costanta and Mangalia that, in the summer, are visited by Bulgarian tourists.
Once summer is over, joint Bulgarian-Romanian police teams would be dispatched to mountain resorts for the winter, under the agreement.
