Confiscation of Mykonos & Santorini Properties Due to Tax Evasion

Eight properties on the Greek Aegean islands of Mykonos & Santorini have been confiscated by Greek authorities. The islands are known as two of the most expensive tourist destinations in Greece. As far as the confiscated properties are concerned, they belong to people who own considerable real estate on the islands.
The property confiscation is due to a sanction for their owners who have not paid their taxes by the deadline of June 30th. So far out of the 990 debtors who own property on the Aegean islands nearly 550 have paid taxes, thus putting a total of 1,044,000 euro into the state treasury.
Greek authorities have taken extreme measures to persecute tax evaders in order to reduce debt and increase revenue to the state budget.
