PPC Not For Sale States Greek Minister for Environment, Energy & Climate Change Tina Birbili

Greek Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Change Tina Birbili categorically ruled out the possibility of the government selling a huge portion of The Public Power Corporation’s production facilities, as part of a liberalization program.
Instead there are three potential senarios to deregulate the energy market without selling the existing power plants.
After a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Theodoros Pangalos and several other high-ranking ministers including Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou, Birbili told reporters that the government had reassured unions and employers that: “there are no plans to sell.”
Unionists representing PPC workers have been militant in their opposition to a possible sell-off of the company’s power plants.  The Unionists have threatened wide scale and long term action if such deals go ahead.
