Traffic Police Increase to Prepare for Large Influx of Vacationers

Traffic police yesterday intensified patrols on the country’s national road network as thousands of Greeks left Athens to begin their summer holidays.  This action was taken in order to prevent  accidents and malfunctions of the road network.
Greece’s ports and airports were crowded yesterday as thousands of vacationers were boarding ferries and planes. According to authorities at the country’s main port of Piraeus, 13,300 passengers boarded ferries to Aegean islands yesterday. Officials of Athens International Airport stated that 2,177 outbound flights were scheduled between Friday and Monday morning. Another major exodus of holidaymakers is expected to take place on Friday August 13th to prepare for the national holiday on August 15th.
