Karystos on fire

A large fire is threatening the residential buildings in the town of Karystos on the island of Euboea, 60 km east of Athens.
50 firefighters with 23 fire engines and 32 volunteers are putting out the flames. The service does not know whether the locals or tourists will be evacuated. No injured people have been reported. The strong wind and the inability of the fire-fighting aircraft to work at night make the situation more complex. Karystos Mayor Spiros Platimesis said the fire broke out in the evening and the situation worsened overnight. The town has population of 4,000 people.
“The fire has reached the town’s edge,” said Platimesis
