6 Arrested by International Police Operation

After a successful eight month joint investigation six people have been arrested.  They were arrested in an international police operation on suspicion of human trafficking, forced prostitution, and sale of ova.
The international police operation which was conducted on September 16th and 17th, busted an organized criminal group for human trafficking, forced prostitution and sale of ova. It was carried out by Bulgaria’s Organized Crime and its Greek counterparts.
Police in Greece have arrested six people; five Bulgarians and a Romanian woman. The police established that the group was operating for about eight months and made a profit of hundreds of thousands of euros. The women were promised EUR 2,000 in exchange for giving their ova, while the group received EUR 25,000 from its clients for an ovum. The criminal group used violence and threats against the women. The donors were Bulgarian and Romanian women. A Greek doctor who carried out the manipulations was detained as well.
The charges pressed are for human trafficking, forced prostitution, procuring and sale of ova.
If found guilty the detainees face from 10 to 20 years imprisonment according to the Greek laws.
