Greek & German Political Figures Hold Mutual Cooperation Meeting

A broader and deeper cooperation between Greece and Germany, on the occasion of the 50 year anniversary since the Greek-German agreement was signed for the employment of Greek workers in Germany, was the theme of the meeting between the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Decentralization and E – Governance Theodora Tzakri with the German Consul General in Thessaloniki Wolfgang Hoelscher-Obermaier. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the German School of Thessaloniki, the Alumni Association of the German School of  Thessaloniki, the Presidents of the Greek-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Goethe Institute in Thessaloniki and Greek Alumni Associations of German Universities.  Representatives of the Association of Diaspora Greeks and Immigrants from Germany were also in attendance.
During the meeting it was decided to organize a Greek – German symposium in Thessaloniki on all thematic areas of common interest to both parties.  It will be beneficial not only towards the region but for the entire country.
The President of the Association of Diaspora Greeks and Immigrants from Germany Grigoris Tekos, suggested holding the photographic exhibition for the 50th year anniversary of Greek immigration in Germany in Thessaloniki as well. Addtionally he requested an intervention so as to obtain a space at the Train Station of Thessaloniki.  The space is  wanted to build a monument dedicated to the Greek immigrant in collaboration with a city of Germany such as Munich or Cologne.  Munich was the first city to accept Greek immigrants.  Cologne is the twin town of Thessaloniki. Ms. Tzakri promised to contact all relevant bodies.
The German Consul General invited Ms. Tzakri to pay an official visit to the country to be informed on issues of e-governance, immigration and public administration.
