European Action Day Today yet Greek Strikes Continue

European Day of Action is today yet Greece seems paralyzed by strikes. Most of the country’s trade unions protested against the strict austerity measures by the government.
GSEE, the General Confederation of Greek Workers and ADEDY, the Civil Servants’ Confederation have organized a mass demonstration today outside the European Union offices in Athens. According to the groups, the government not only introduced antisocial measures that decrease tremendously working wages, but now it is rewarding the banks who are also responsible for the crisis.
The strikes are expected to make life even harder for citizens as there will be no public transportation from 12.00-16.00. The metro will start working again and buses and trains will operate one hour later.
At the same time, a 24 hour strike has been announced from the Union of Hospital Doctors and all hospitals are expected to work with limited staff.
The rest of the European countries will face a similar situation today, as strikes have been organized and approved by the European Trade Union Confederation all over the continent.  Brussels which is the  home of the European Parliament expects 100.000 workers to demonstrate.
