UC Davis Chancellor Dr. Katehi Named Int'l Educational Commission Director

Dramatic changes regarding the Greek educational system have been promised by the government.  It is launching a new International Educational Commission with education specialists and academics from Europe, USA and Hong Kong.
Linda Katehi who is Greek is the Chancellor at the University of California, Davis.  She has been since 2009 .  Dr. Katehi has received national and international recognition for her work as a researcher and educator. She earned her B.S. in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 1977 and her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from UCLA in 1981 and 1984, respectively.
The commission she will run will aim to advise the government on global trends regarding education that are followed by universities around the world.
The commission will also meet with Greek political parties and other educational and social organizations to discuss and listen to their suggestions.  The commission will be unpaid.

• David Naylor (Canada) President of the University of Toronto
Gavin Brown (Australia), former Rector of the University of Sydney.
• Gudmund Hernes (Norway), former Minister of Education and Research, former Health Minister and President of the International Council for Social Research.
• James J. Duderstadt (USA), Honorary President of the University of Michigan.
• Jo Ritzen (Netherlands), Former Minister of Education and President of the University of Maastricht.
• John Sexton (USA), President of the University of New York.
• Patrick Aebischer (Switzerland), President of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne.
• Lap-Chee Tsui (Hong Kong), Rector and President of the University of Hong Kong.
