100 years celebration for Greek Books: 1884-1984

Books written by political refugees in the ex-East Regions, the Greek minorities of Albania and Istanbul, Greeks in America and Ottoman Thessaloniki are included in the major school books exhibition opening today for public at the Osman Sax mosque in Trikala.
The exhibition is under the title of “100 years celebration for Greek Books:1884-1984”.Starting point is the year 1884 because during that year te New Greek Language lesson was established in schools and the first school books concerning Greek Readings were published.
There will also been exhibited representative primers and readings of primary school, Greek Readings of the Greek School, of secondary school and High school and books from all the subject areas such as history, ancient Greek, grammar, math, physics, chemistry, geography, biology etc. More than 400 books will exhibit in general.
Furthermore, in many big dashboards existing around the exhibition room will be exhibited layouts from various books in order for visitors to be informed about the content of the books changing according to the political situations and ideologies and educational reforms through history.
The books come from the National Museum of Education in Veria and from private collections of Evagellia Kantzaris (Thessaloniki), Chrysanthi Koumparou- Haniotis (Piraeus),Maria Botila(Thessaloniki),Nikos Helidonis (Trikala),Theodoros Nimas (Trikala) and from various donations made by people of Trikala.
