Organized Crime Group Busted in Athens

An organized crime group that has consistenly robbed pedestrians was detained by the Security Department in Athens. The members of the crime groups were attacking women the majority of the time.  They stole items such as bags, purses, and jewelry.  The crime group also broke into cars in central Athens.
The 22 people were arrested in Patissia and are in custody of the police. The group consisted of sixteen Algerian nationals and six Afghans and have committed many robberies and thefts in the last six months. The police believe that the group has more members who are continue their assaults.
Currently the 22 criminals have been found guilty of 35 street robberies and 45 acts of breaking and entering cars and residences.
The perpetrators were selling stolen goods in Omonia Square and Monastiraki.  The rest of the goods wre hidden in several abandoned house in downtown Athens.
In an investigation conducted in two houses the following were found and confiscated: jewelries, handbags, watches, sunglasses, wallets, various electronic devices, cell phones, knives, breaking and entering tools.
The stolen belongings were transferred to the Police Department of St. Panteleimon to be delivered back to the victims.
