Supreme Court Clears 6 Sentanced for Treason

The 7th Criminal Division of the Supreme Court, under the decision 1675/2010 accepted the appeal of Michalis Protopapadakis to re-examine the Trial of the 6, who were sentenced to death for high treason.  This resulted after the Asia Minor disaster in 1922 and reversed the verdict.
The Supreme Court accepted the appeal by Michalis Protopapadakis is the grandson of former Prime Minister Petros Protopapadakis.  At the age of 68 the Prime Minister was convicted of high treason and was executed, reversed the verdict of the Extraordinary Military Tribunal of Athens in 1922.
In 1922, former Prime Ministers Demetrios Gounaris, Petros Protopapadakis and Nikolaos Stratos, Ministers Nikolaos Theotokis, Georgios Baltatzis, General Xenophon Stratigos, Admiral Michail Goudas and General Georgios Hadjianestis-last Commander in Chief of the Asia, were tried for high treason at the Extraordinary Military Tribune. Hadjianestis, Gounaris, Stratos, Protopapadakis, Baltatziz and Theotokis were convicted and sentenced to death, whereas Goudas and Stratigos received a life imprisonement sentence.
