According to the Metropolitan Bishop of Serres and Nigritas, Theologos, the damages caused by this current fire are estimated at about 2 million euros. The monastery was built in the 13th century and is very vulnerable to fire. Many supporters came to the monastery to help the fire brigade control the damage. Unfortunately, the dormer, the old gallery, the chancel table, the kitchen, the hospice and storage areas of the monastery were burned down.
