Greece's IT Usage on the Rise

The use of personal computers and internet use is rising in Greece.
According to a survey carried out by the Greek statistical authority, regarding the first quarter of 2010 and quoted by the Italian Trade Commission (ICE) office in Athens, the percentage of Greeks who use a computer has risen to 48.4%. Internet use is at 44.4%. The average annual increase of pc use was 6.5% over the past five years, with an 11.4% growth of internet use.
Most internet users are male (53.9% against 46.1% women), in the age group between 25 and 34 and with a medium-high education (university degree, diploma, professional training).
Around 90% of internet users use the web to find information on goods and services and 80% for communication. Some internet activities have remained unchanged compared with the previous year.  For example, the use of e-mail, internet banking, searching information on goods and services, on travelling, hotels, on-line courses, etc. Other activities have increased, like searching information on health, (+42.3%), copying software programmes (+28.7%), reading on-line newspapers (+14.4%), listening to radio or watching web television (+13.7%), participating in discussion forums, newsgroups, blogs, chat (+11%).
