Survey Reveals Socialist Government's Lead Over Conservative Opposition Party Declining

The Greek socialist government’s lead over the main conservative opposition party has slimmed considerably, according to a research poll to be published Friday.
The survey conducted by Kapa Research for the large circulation newspaper To Vima, says that the difference between the two largest and mainstream parties has halved to two percentage points.
“The ruling PASOK party would attract 22.2% of all votes if the elections were to be called now, while center-right New Democracy party would get 20.2%. Meanwhile, the largest block which totals 30.6% is the undecided vote,” Kapa Research said.
Previous polls suggested that the government’s lead was anywhere between four to nine percentage points, despite having implemented unprecedented austerity measures.
These tough policies seem to be costing the socialist government considerable voter support barely 15 months into its first term, and leading to a jump in likely abstentions and undecided citizens.
However, the government still has a comfortable majority in parliament with 156 deputies of a total of 300.
