An unpleasant surprise awaits those who are going to visit the Greek capital’s official site. Apparently Constantinople is referred to as Istanbul, preferring Turkish vocabulary to Greek. What follows is the official announcement of the Municipality of Athens about the visit of the Mayor of Constantinople: “The Mayor of Athens Mr. George Kaminis will be visited tomorrow by the Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Istanbul Mr. Kadir Topbas at the Mayor Hall in Athens. Mr. Topbas and a big delegation are visiting Athens in order to promote cooperation between the two historic cities”. Is it an honest mistake, or is it that we do not wish to provoke our visitor?
