Public Transport & Healthcare Strikes Continue

There seems to be no end to the inconveniences caused by the strikes in Greece lately. After the strikes in the public transport sector, which are still continuing, a new wave of protests has arrived in the healthcare sector. Doctors and pharmacists are resolute to step up their mobilisation ahead of the debate in Parliament on the bill that was presented by the Health Minister. This bill they say, will damage the public character of the national healthcare system. Doctors of the Social Security Institute have been on strike since Tuesday. They have said that they are ready to continue their fight indefinitely, while doctors working in hospitals have called a strike that will last until next Thursday. Meanwhile the Ministry’s hall remains occupied for the third day, by dozens of physicians. All chemist’s shops in the Greek capital will remain closed until next Tuesday, as pharmacists are also against the bill which liberalises their profession.
