Greek Union Calls 24-Hour Strike May 11 Over New Measures

Greece’s private sector umbrella union, GSEE (the 800,000-strong labor), Monday called a 24-hour strike for May 11 to protest the government’s latest austerity measures.
“We decided to strike on May 11,” said the general secretary of private sector union GSEE, Nikos Kioutsioukis. “The government’s policies are not bearing fruit and we will fight against them,” he told
ADEDY, the country’s biggest public sector union, will also take part in the strike, ADEDY spokeswoman Despina Spanou said over the phone.
