IMF Official Ruled Out Further Wage Cuts And Tax Increases

Greece΄s reform program remains largely on track, International Monetary Fund official Poul Thomsen said in a conference in Athens on Wednesday, but called on the Greek government to step up its efforts in the following months.
Despite the fact that it is a tough program, social stability is maintained, said Thomsen at the sidelines of The Economist forum, adding that the divergence of the recession estimates is reasonable because of the program.
It is under study whether Greece will return in the market next year, the IMF official added.
It takes a considerable acceleration of reforms in the public sector in order to push state deficit below 10% of GDP, Poul Thomsen said, while he added that taxation is too high.
He ruled out further cuts in wages and pensions, but asked for structural reforms in tax legislation and insurance.
