Lack of Financial Support Results in Cancellation of The International Film Festival of Patmos

Lack of financial support from various government bodies, namely the Municipality of Patmos, the Ministry of Culture and the GNTO, has resulted in the postponement of this year’s International Film Festival of Patmos. This popular annual event will now take place next July, 2012.
Despite the organizers having secured media sponsorship from TV channels and radio stations, and also raising 50% of the budget through own capital and individual commercial sponsorships, it was not enough to cover the whole cost of the festival which is considered to be not only a cultural event but an educational one too. Just as in previous years, the film festival was to have had workshops run by important international filmmakers and screenings of awarded national and international films. There would also have been interesting documentaries shot in various locations to enthrall visitors and exciting events for film buffs to take part in.
Considering the importance of tourism to Greece, it seems incredible that something as important as the International Film Festival of Patmos and something that would increase the development of Patmos can not go ahead.
