Greek Scientists Participate in New Alzheimer's Disease Studies

A new test which was carried out in Munich, Germany gives the opportunity for doctors to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease in advance. Greek scientists, A. Tsolakidou and P. Alexopoulos took part in the studies.
According to Reuters, the aim was to diagnose the disease before it provoked any brain damage. The sooner we can diagnose the disease, the better, agreed the scientists.
This test involved 58 people with little memory problems. After three years, 21 of them had developed Alzheimer disease, while 27 have still shown only symptoms, 8 have completely recovered and 2 of them have shown another type of disease.
Baring in mind the age factor and the rate of “Tav” level protein, (Alzheimer’s patients have higher level of “Tav”, a specific protein), the scientists were in the position to diagnose to the extent of 80% which patients were about to have signs of the disease.
