Greece May Be out of the Woods as Parliament Passes Second Austerity Bill

The Greek Parliament passed a second austerity bill on Thursday needed to receive crucial bailout loans to prevent defaulting on its debt. Despite violent protests outside the parliament building and throughout the city center for two days, politicians went ahead and implemented the five-year plan of spending cuts and tax hikes demanded by the Eu & IMF. The two bills will now ensure that Greece will receive the 12 billion euro instalment from the country’s 110 billion euro package of loans.
Today’s, approval of the bills will now clear the way for Eurozone finance ministers to discuss the latest bailout payment at talks in Brussels on Sunday. Greece needs the payment by July 15 to pay its most urgent debts.
The new austerity package is bitterly opposed by Greek citizens and the government’s plans to raise 50 billion euros from the sale of state owned assets.
