UNESCO Honors Maria Menounos


Maria Menounos, the Greek-American journalist, broadcaster and actress was honored for her philanthropically actions by Unesco Centre for Women and Peace in Balkan Countries, on June 29th. The president of the Centre called Menounos an example of a women, who succeeds because of her diligence. She is a sweet and simple person with a dynamic personality. She was also invited to be a Goodwill Ambassador for the Centre’s Women Artists Festival.
Menounos recently spoke about her recent book “The EveryGirl’s Guide to Life”, hoping that it would soon be translated into Greek. She said she decided to write the book because people would ask her how she managed to do so many things in one day, or how she slimmed down, and other such things, so she decided to share the knowledge she obtained from speaking with specialists, regarding her job.
Menounos has under her wing some notable acheivements, she founded the charity “Take Action Hollywood!” after her trip to South Africa. Reporting on the devastating effects of the Aids crisis she was inspired to create TAH! She also created the Cosmo Girl Cup, a national, annual competition and award given to a group of teens who do the most in their communities to achieve a positive social change. On April 25, 2010, Menounos presented “Earth Day” at Network’s Climate Rally in Washington, D.C. In the same year, in October, she acted as the Masters of Ceremony for the First Annual Los Angeles CureSearch Walk for Children’s Cancer held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. In 2008, she was the first journalists to interview the entire Barack Obama family.
