Wildfires break out in Evia, Greece

Still from the area of the fire

Wild fires broke out at a mountainous area in the North part of Evia, Greece around 2 pm. Fire crews – backed by helicopters and five water-bombers – are trying to prevent the flames from spreading to the nearby towns.
Fanned by strong winds the fire is threatening the villages of Agios, Varvara and the town of Aidipsos.
A state of emergency has been declared in the area, but no casualties have been reported except a few animals that may be trapped in the fire.
Olive groves and a small forest outside the village of Varvara, have already been torched.
