Deputy Minister of Culture & Tourism: Sector has Increased

Although there has been strikes and unpleasant images in Syntagma Square over recent weeks, tourism has increased over the last six months, according to G. Nikitiades, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism.

“The development of tourism is due to strategic plans that are applied by the Ministry,” stated G. Nikitiades. “The nation is accomplishing to build foundations for the future. Arrivals of tourists have risen to 10 %. Our view is optimistic but this is not a reason to continue our efforts. We have to try harder to keep improving our economy and the current situation,” he explains.

He stressed that this development is only a small part of what Greece lost in the past. Tourism should be the ”machine” of our economy. Our touristic services should be improved regarding their quality, the touristic period should be increased and we should take advantage of our sea tourism.

The Deputy Minister was asked about the recent articles regarding Greek islands being up for sale and that a Turkish investor has shown interest. He answered ‘That nothing is for sale, we are not going to give anything, Greece is not for sale. Anyone  who wants to invest in our country is welcome.”
