Bank Account Confidentiality Lifted

The Ministry of Economics decided to lift bank accounts confidentiality for those who have lately moved part of their deposits to foreign banks abroad. The aim of the measure, according to the newspaper “Ta Nea”, is to inspect the deposits to see if the money of these accounts is justified by the income they declared to the Tax Office.
Under this scope, the Minister of Economics, Mr. Venizelos, underlined that due to the lifting of confidentiality the Ministry will be able to detect which of the remittances have been sent lately to foreign banks. In addition, they will be able to detect the interest rates of the deposits and the credit cards issued by foreign banks. He warns that inspections will take place and the information will be available to the Ministry, so he invited the tax payers to pay the tax which corresponds to their income.
