Lack of Funds for Greek Public Crèches

Up until now, 1.565 applications have been made by Greek parents who wish to send their children to public crèches. However, the Greek Ministry of Interior has not given a final answer considering which will be the number of the available staff at the crèches this year, due to the lack of funds. The problem is that 52% of the people working at the almost 2.500 public crèches of Greece are contract workers. In addition, four crèches have been closed because their buildings were found inappropriate.
At the municipality of Athens, for example, there were, in total,  5.501 available posts for children at the public crèches; 5.353 children were enrolled, 945 were runner-ups and 650 were rejected.
