National Youth Foundation is Abolished – Universities Will Decide on Students' Accomodation & Food

Universities and technological institutes will undertake the management of feeding and housing students since the abolition of the National Youth Foundation, as stated in the response of Education Minister Anna Diamantopoulou to the relevant question of KKE MP Nikos Karathanasopoulos.
The aim is ”to use in the best possible way the available infrastructure for feeding and housing the students and create a rational design to provide these services to students who really need them based on social, economic and population criteria”, stressed Mrs. Diamantopoulou in her letter.
“Last summer the administration of the National Youth Foundation provided 2,400 rooms that were occupied or doubly rented. This means that the wealth and property of the Greek people have been used for years with any kind of pretext and have not been given to those who needed it. This year another 1,600 rooms will be provided, although their management is not at all easy given the already existing situation. There are students who do not leave their rooms for those who study regularly”, noted the Minister.
“There will be government funding, but the management of this accomodation will go to universities,” she said, describing a new plan that will be created and will set the standards for students’ food, as well as control and supervise all these student services.
