Art & All That Jazz at Megaro Gyzi Festival on Santorini

The Megaro Gyzi Festival 2011, is already underway on the beautiful island of Santorini. The festival, under the artistic direction of Yannis Papaconstantinou, is being held until 23, August, in the 17th-century old family mansion, Megaro Gyzi in Fira.
Included in the program of cultural events is an unique painting exhibition and seven music concerts, three of which will be jazz.

On 7, August, Norwegian saxophonist, Anders Lonne Gronseth and English pianist, David Skinner will be presenting a wide repertoire ranging from works of well-known composers (such as Messiaen, Bartok and Ligeti) to jazz standards, but also their compositions from their personal discography. The duo have been playing together since 1999 and are members of the Norwegian jazz quartet Sphinx.

On 13, August, Pianist and composer of international acclaim, Vassilis Tsabropoulos will be taking his audience on a passionate journey of musical style, by mixing elements of classic, jazz and ethnic music. Tsabropoulos, who will be presenting his unreleased new compositional work, titled ”Eros and Soul”, returns to Santorini a year later to give tourists and residents of the island another spectacular performance.

The jazz trio, Human Touch with  David Lynch (saxophones & flute), Stavros Lantsias (piano & keyboards) and Yiotis Kiourtsoglou (electric bass), will be playing their own unique style of jazz on 20, August. Their direct and communicative music has influenced whole generations of instrumentalists and they have become one of the most famous  jazz bands in Greece.
Admission to all events is free.
