Tax Offices ''Merge'' with Citizen Service Centers (KEP)

Τhe Finance Ministry will implement a plan for merging and abolishing tax authorities next week, with the first 20 tax offices to be merged into ten. This is a project aimed at modernizing tax authorities, in which, as the Ministry of Finance noted, 288 tax offices that exist today will be limited to 30 large tax offices, subject to particular audit project. Under this plan, taxpayers will be served in all cases either electronically through the TAXIS  tax program or through Citizen Service Centres (KEP). Thus, the tax offices that will be left will deal exclusively with checks to combat tax evasion.
It is significant that, from the information available to the Ministry of Finance, in a total of 36 billion revenue collected in 2010, 22.77 billion were collected from 20 tax offices, whereas, the remaining 78 offices at the bottom in ranking in terms of revenue, collected only 464 millions.
Some officers will be released from the tax offices, and special teams will be set up to monitor the elimination of tax evasion. It is also expected that a number of officers will be transferred from the tax authorities to Citizen Service Centres (KEP), designed to serve the taxpayers.
