The fires are now partially under control and firefighters are still working hard in the area. The fires broke out on several fronts during the celebration of the Monatery of Pantokratoras.
The fire in Loutses have been burning since Wednesday evening, while fires in the rugged region of Megkoulas, in Old Peritheia broke out yesterday.
The Mayor of Corfu, C. Trepeklis, who visited the areas, stated yesterday in Corfu Chanel that the fire sadly managed to threaten the High School of Kassiopi. Residents suspect arson.
