30 Hospitals in Attica to Provide Methadone

Health Minister Andreas Loverdos announced on August 11th that 30 hospitals will be in a position to provide methadone to patients who need it.

The Minister noted that the ND (New Democracy) had a list of 5,000 people waiting for the medicine, but the government has since increased the number to 7,000 people.

The Ministry of Health aims to provide units to dispense methadone to every hospital of the nation, even military hospitals. The only exception remains the pediatric hospitals.

The units will be in operation from the upcoming September.

The OKANA organization has requested a permit for Saint Barbara Hospital and Dromokaitio Hospital, but have yet to receive a reply.

Regarding the rest of the country,the biggest hospital of the prefecture will host such a unit. If there is a larger demand, additional hospitals will ask for similar units.
