Low Tourist Traffic in Popular Religious Destinations on Assumption Day

Hoteliers in the popular religious destinations of the country are disappointed with this year’s low touristic traffic, as many of the rooms still remain empty today, on August 14, one day before the commemoration day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Despite the decline in prices, reservations are fewer than last year, with the decline reaching 40%.  Hoteliers complain about the low traffic even on the most popular religious destination, the island of the Virgin Mary, Tinos. People from all over Greece flock to Tinos every year, but this year the Greeks seem to have dramatically reduced their short getaways. On the island of Apocalypse Patmos, despite the falling prices of accommodations, the number of reservations have been reduced by 25%.
Unlike other religious destinations , the traffic on the island of Paros is quite satisfactory. Despite the difficulties of the past two months when a fall in traffic was observed , August’s tourist traffic was much better. As president of hoteliers Takis Ampatzis stated, “we are pleased with the arrival of tourists, despite the fact that there are still empty rooms. Most of our visitors are Greeks but we work with foreigners, too. ”
