Athens Ranks 38th in World's Most Expensive Cities

Athens is the 38th most expensive city in the world. This is the conclusion of the last review of the study conducted every three years by the Swiss bank UBS on prices, wages and purchasing power of consumers in different regions of the world.
To reach this ranking, UBS calculates the cost of the ”housewife basket”, which includes 122 goods and services (excluding rents) in 73 regions. The most expensive cities in the world are Oslo, Zurich and Geneva. On the other hand, the cheapest cities in the world are Mumbai, Manila and New Delhi.
The cost of the basket is measured based on prices in the city of New York , which in this study is assigned the value “100” and is 14th on the list.

Zurich was found to have the highest wages, followed by Geneva. Third in the ranking comes Copenhagen. Paris ranks 24th, while Athens 33rd. At the bottom of the ranking, we find Nairobi, Manila and Mumbai.
