High Rate of Students Leaving Private Schools

According to an article in the Greek newspaper “Ethnos”, the economic crisis has also hit the private schools.
It is estimated that the number of students attending private schools this year will be decreased by 25%. It seems that parents who belong to the middle class can no longer pay the very expensive tuition and have decided to enroll their children in public schools. According to statistics, seven private schools 0 nursery schools have already been closed.
Since the school year 2008-2009, when the economic crisis broke out, till now 17,000 students have left private schools. In 2000, when there was a high rate of new private schools opening all over the country, 91,500 students were enrolled.  There were also 40 schools belonging to embassies, the American community etc who had another 6,500 students.
