Writer Nikos Themelis Passes Away

Writer Nikos Themelis, associate of former Prime Minister Kostas Simitis, passed away at the age of 64 Saturday evening.
Themelis studied Law at the University of Thessaloniki and then in Germany where he did his Ph.D. in 1975. He worked at the Agricultural Bank, the Ministry of Finance, and the Legal Service of the Council of Ministers in Brussels.
Since 1981, he has been the associate of Kostas Simitis, following him to the ministries of Agriculture, National Economy, Education, Industry and supported him when he became a Prime Minister (1996-2004).
He has published the following novels: The Reverse, The Search, The Flash, A Life Two Others, For a Company Between Us,  and The Truths of Others, Which Was His Last One.
On learning the news of the death of N. Themelis, Prime Minister George Papandreou made the following statement:
“I am sad to hear of the early loss of Nick Themelis, of a man with great contribution to the political life of the country as well as in the governments of PASOK, of a renowned writer, with extensive and pioneering work that follows the course and the requests of Greek society in a contemporary look, of a sensitive and capable man whose absence will be felt by all of us. I express my sincere condolences to his family. ”
