Pensioners Become Farmers!

Recently, many elders tend to go back to their villages as they can make a living spending less money.
During 2008-2010, 38.000 new labor posts were created in the agricultural sector. And many of the new farmers are pensioners who want to have additional income. More specifically, 22%-32% of the new farmers are between 45-64 years old. Thus, they cultivate their own products in their farms and feel safe that in case the state faces problems and can not afford paying their pensions they will still be able to make a living.
According to a “Kathimerini” article,  in Chios the traditional cultivation of mastic is developing again and the production has been raised by 20%.
