Finance Minister: Structural Reforms Are Urgent Task

Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos urged a government working group to proceed with the implementation of agreed reforms.
He highlighted that 80% of the necessary for the fulfillment of the county’s obligations has already passed, implying the inability of implementation.
Venizelos, also Deputy Prime Minister, said that major legislative backlog -related to the uniform payroll and the new taxation system- has already been launched.
According to government MPs, who attended the meeting, the Minister said that international lenders require acceleration of structural changes and appeared cautious on whether the country is determined to proceed with bold reforms. Reportedly, troika representatives could accept deviations in revenue, but condemn delays in structural reforms.
Former Labour Minister Luka Katseli and MP Thanasis Papageorgiou raised the issue of upgrading the supervisory role of the Bank of Greece (“as it is auditor and audited at the same time”) and strengthening the protection of borrowers.
