Greek Pioneer Graphic Designer Freddie Carabott Passes Away

Greek prominent graphic designer Freddy Carabott passed away last Saturday at the age of 87.
Carabott was born in Greece in 1924 to an English father and a Greek mother. He studied at the Chelsea School of Art and at St Martin’s School of Arts and Crafts.
In 1962, along with the couple of Michalis and Agni Katzourakis they founded the “K&K – Athens Publicity Centre”, a pioneering creative force that received multiple awards, both Greek and international awards, and wrote history for the Greek graphic art.
In June 1963 the advertising poster that K&K designed for the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) won the first prize in the International Advertising Association Awards in Stockholm, while a year later “K&K” was given the Rizzoli Award for best Greek advertisement in Milan.
Carabott’s work, especially in the 60’s and 70’s, characterized the poor, almost non-existent, Greek design scene of those times. His work is a synthesis of painting, paper constructions and photography, while it blends all these techniques to create simple yet extremely emotional images.
Freddie Carabott lived and worked in Greece since 1957 and was considered a master of his craft.
