Civil Servants To Walk Out Tomorrow (Again)

Civil servants, who have seen their salaries butchered over the past two years, will hold a three-hour work stoppage on Tuesday to start at 1 p.m.
The civil servants’ union, ADEDY, along with the country’s main labor union GSEE, have staged countless of general strikes over the past year, demanding that the government cancels cutbacks and structural reforms that have been voted, including plans to lay off thousands of public workers.
Needless to say, it’s almost certain that the strikes will once more have no impact whatsoever, as EU leaders have stated that if the new coalition government will not push the measures demanded, Greece will be left on its own luck and out of the euro. Merkel and Sarkozy made clear to new PM Lucas Papademos that a Greek default may not be the end of the world after all.
Such a view is of course anathema to the Greek politicians who have understandably been using the threat of bankruptcy as a bargaining chip to get better terms from their creditors.
