PM Lucas Papademos Calls For Unity and Action

Greek PM Lukas Papademos urged Greece’s first coalition government in modern times to back his plan right before the submission of the new budget in the parliament.

Papademos called for unity reminding that the financial hardships experienced by Greece raise the issue of its possible exclusion from the Eurozone. Papadimos request for unity was associated to the accusations heard at the three-day consultations in the parliament, before the vote of confidence. Former ECB vise president also said he’s cautiously optimistic for European developments due to the liquid situation, but underlined that investments are the government’s top priority.

Although he requested notifications about pending issues from ministers, Papademos asked for immediate implementation of  the agreed measures. Since the tenure of the government is short and the stance of ministers is not convincing for fulfilment of objectives, he is expected to hold private meetings with ministers, as soon as he returns from Brussels on Tuesday.

Far-right Infrastructure Minister Makis Voridis continued to act as if time is by his side and asked for freezing labour reserve and pre-retirement schemes in order to correct errors and omissions identified by the opposition recently.
