APOEL Secures Historic Champions League Last 16 Place

Cypriot Football club APOEL Nicosia achieved a goalless draw with Zenit Saint Petersburg which secured a spot in the Champions League`s last 16.
Participating in Europe`s premier club competition for the second time, having emerged from the second qualifying round, the Cypriot champions have earned a spot in the Champions League knockout stage, for the first time in Cyprus` football history.
“I am the happiest man in the world right now. We have achieved something which three months ago we had no right to even dream of. This is the crowning moment for all the effort we put in,“ said APOEL`s coach Ivan Jovanovic.
After the draw in Saint Petersburg, APOEL remains on top of Group G with nine points and qualifies to the Champions League knockout stage, regardless of the result of the next tie with Shakhtar in the last day of the group stage.
