U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has arrived in Athens for a two-day visit during which he will meet Greece’s political leadership.
Biden was greeted at Athens International Airport by Deputy Prime Minister Theodoros Pangalos.
Biden will meet Monday with President Karolos Papoulias and Prime Minister Lucas Papademos, who took over the troubled government weeks ago.
This will be Papademos’ first meeting with a senior U.S. officials since he was appointed last month to restart emergency loan payments and secure a massive new rescue deal from eurozone countries and the International Monetary Fund.
Biden will also meet with George Papandreou, leader of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement,and leader of conservatives, Antonis Samaras.
Biden departs Athens Monday evening for Washington.
