Five Immigrants Dead After Truck Accident in Western Greece

Five immigrants were killed when the truck they were travelling in overturned in western Greece, police said Saturday.
The truck carrying 48 Afghan nationals was reportedly stolen in Athens before the crash in the area of Mikita in Aitoloakarnania. The driver fled the scene and it was not certain where the immigrants were heading at the time of the accident.
Port authorities stop boat with 100 illegal immigrants
Greek port authorities seized a boat last night in the Ionian Sea with around 100 illegal immigrants on board, and escorted it into the port of Katakolo in the southwest Peloponnese.
The captain of the 12-metre (40-foot) boat reportedly refused to follow three patrol boats in the zone on Friday after one of the passengers made a distress call, fearing the boat could sink. Greek authorities said they believed the boat was bound for Italy.
The alarm was raised when the boat was around 30 nautical miles off the west coast of the Peloponnese.
Authorities said the boat had apparently been due to pick up other illegal immigrants which a human smuggling network had transported from Athens, but they had stayed ashore because there was not enough room.
Police picked up 58 illegal immigrants near Gytheion in the southern Peloponnese on Friday.
